Normani has become the last member of Fifth Harmony to collaborate outside of the group and the song is smashing the charts

Normani Kordei teams up with Khalid to create a hit R’n’B track entitled Love Lies.

American girl group, Fifth Harmony, have continued to grow and diversify their creations in the past year and have shown flexibility and style in being a part of a successful group as well as following their individual aspirations and branching out to other genres and styles of music which suit their voices and personalities.

After the release of Love Lies last month, the four members of 5H, which consists of Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane Hansen, and Normani, have now all contributed to original songs outside of the group. This has all happened within the last year whilst the group have been creating their third studio album, and starting their PSA tour in America and Asia.

Although the fresh new track with Khalid is technically Normani’s first leap into working on original solo music, Normani has released individual covers and dance videos in the past, and also took part in last year’s Dancing with the Stars where she made it to the final achieving third place. Normani’s solo covers can be found on her Youtube channel.

Although it’s clear all four girls have never held back from working on individual music or projects which they are passionate about, Love Lies is the first original single Normani has worked on outside of Fifth Harmony and has earned her the incredible honour of scoring the highest first-week position for a debut single by a girl group member, as the track debuted at 43 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This is an incredible achievement and is deservedly received. Love Lies has a raspy and sexy style, and Khalid and Normani’s voices both complement the RnB hook beautifully. The music video is also fire.

Love Lies comes shortly after fellow group member, Ally Brooke, released a collaboration with Topic entitled Perfect. This, compared to Normani and Khalid’s song, makes it obvious all four girls have different genres that suit them. Perfect falls slightly under both the pop and trap music categories which is very far away from the vibe of Love Lies. Ally’s vocals also featured on Lost King’s single Look At Us Now which was released back in 2017.

Member Lauren Jauregui has also dominated the scene, being lucky to work individually with multiple different artists over the years, from featuring on Halsey’s Strangers which was rated Billboards 97th best song of 2017, to her collaboration with Steve Aoki on All Night which charted on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic songs at number nine. All Night brought EDM to the table which we’ve never seen from Lauren or the other girls.

Lauren first began working on music outside of Fifth Harmony back in 2016 when she featured on Marian Hill’s single Back to Me. More recently, she teamed up with her partner Ty Dolla $ign for his new album featuring on the hip-hop track In Your Phone which was released back in October, in which Ty Dolla $ign’s elegant and decorative vocals harmonize alongside Lauren’s raspy tone perfectly.

Last but not least, it can’t be forgotten member Dinah Jane contributed to the massive summer anthem Boom Boom alongside RedOne, Daddy Yankee and French Montana which was also released in October last year. Dinah then posted a Christmas mashup alongside Leona Lewis which focused on using basic piano runs and powerful vocal melodies.

The group have been experimenting more and more in the past year outside of their Fifth Harmony label and have been smashing it. This creates an atmosphere of trust, loyalty and freedom amongst their group persona as the girls are able to create both together and apart, which may have been influenced by new and updated management contracts brought on by former member Camila Cabello’s departure back in 2016.

Whatever the reason for these outside collaborations, we absolutely love it and hope they keep coming.

Love Lies was released on February 14th 2018 and is currently number 30 in the UK top 40.
